Substantial Internet Failure Impacts Numerous Websites and Applications

An extensive web failure has impacted many websites and apps worldwide, and users experiencing problems getting online due to difficulties at the web hosting system.

The impacted apps include Snapchat, Roblox, Signal, and Duolingo, in addition to several Amazon-managed services such as its primary shopping site and the Ring doorbell device manufacturer.

Across the United Kingdom, the financial institution Lloyds was disrupted along with its affiliates Halifax and Bank of Scotland, with also reports of difficulties using the HM Revenue and Customs website on the start of the week. Additionally in Britain, several Ring users turned to social media to report their security devices were malfunctioning.

In the UK alone, accounts of issues on specific apps totaled the many thousands for each app.

Amazon reported that the outage started in the eastern region of the US at AWS, a division that provides crucial internet framework for many businesses, who rent out capacity on the company's servers. The cloud platform is the world’s largest web hosting system.
